Penelope Taynt is one of the characters of the Nickelodeon TV SHOW “The Amanda Show”. Penelope Taynt´s character plays the role of Amanda´s number one fan, and she´s always trying get backstage access in order to finally meet her idol Amanda, and even she is always making it, she never really does.
The Amanda Show is a funny show for kids and teenagers that aired on 1999. It lasted three years. Penelope´s character is played by the same Amanda Byrnes who dresses up in the show to look like two different people. Penelope claims to be Amanda´s number one fan and she sure tries very hard to establish that. It is one thing to admire someone else, and that could be any regular person or even a member of a sports team, a musician, an actor or actress. It is quite something else to be a fanatic. Fanatics will do everything in and out of their power to fulfill their dreams, part of which is usually just to be able to talk to this ¨special person¨ or at least be in a close distance to him or her. Fanatics do not budget their income when it comes to their stars and they spend whatever they have to spend and whenever they have to spend it as long as they can feel a little bit closer to the stars they admire so much. There used to be a show broadcasted by the MTV network called “Fanatic”, about people who claimed to be someone´s number one fan and sent videos that basically proved their devotion to that artist. After the MTV crew decided who was the person who acted more “Fan Like”, they showed up at their homes or even their jobs with a bunch of camera´s and told them that they would meet their favorite star at that very moment. Most of the people were blown away when they found about it and started screaming and jumping up and down. They didn’t even have the chance to change their clothes, but none of them really cared, because all that was on their minds at that moment is that they would be meeting their favorite star.
Penelope Taynt, like any other fan, tried to accomplish her dreams without the need of a TV network. She did everything she could to make this happen, including lying, dressing up like someone else, and even stealing. It didn’t even matter if she was sent to jail as long as she could get the chance to share a moment with her idol, Amanda.
Being an admirer and being a fan are two different things. The admirer doesn’t go through any Hazard, out of their way, or budget to meet their Idol, but the fan is just the opposite. We have all been a Fan, or at least most of us, when we were teenagers or maybe even in our adult life.
