In the last decades, we have seen how TV shows that are related to murders have been increasing their ratings more and more. These TV shows are trying to get inside the “murderer’s minds” to try and figure out why do they kill, how they do it, and basically how they tried to cover it. Even if they use fictional characters, one may think, that they are teaching people how to kill someone without getting caught. One of these famous TV dramas is called ¨Criminal Minds¨, which is produced in the United States of America. The first time this show aired was six years ago on September 22, 2005, and the ratings are still up in the air. What’s different about this show from the others? Well, the other shows try to focus more on the crime, and where, how, who did it and why. They try to get to the bottom of an specific murder.
Criminal Minds, however, concentrates on how the mind of the killer works. On the TV drama, they have a whole group of people supposedly from the FBI working on these cases that are mainly fictional characters. Since the Show premiered, each season has aired to over 12 million viewers in the United States alone and it is also viewed all over the world. The characters of this TV Show are Aaron Hotchner, (Unit Chief), Jason Gideon (Senior Supervisory Special Agent), David Rossi (Senior Supervisory Special Agent), Elle Greenaway (Supervisory Special Agent), Emily Prentiss (Supervisory Special Agent), Derek Morgan (Supervisory Special Agent), Spencer Reid (Supervisory Special Agent), Jennifer Jareau (Supervisory Special Agent /Media Liaison), Penelope Garcia (Technical Analyst) and Ashley Seaver (FBI Cadet).
The fictional character of Penelope Garcia is played by Kirsten Vangsness. She is supposed to be a computer technician for these team of investigators. The role of Penelope is not simple and is not really to fixed to computers as you might think. She actually plays one of the most important roles of this TV Show, which is to investigate background information, track addresses, get inside the criminals most personal information available on a computer screen, such as bank accounts, money transfers, and any transaction of information or money that they have done during their entire life, which is very important when a specific criminal is being investigated and they´re trying to learn the criminals behavioral pattern. Her character lost both of her parents in a car crash when she was eighteen years old. After that she started developing interest in computer hacking and became one of the best hackers in the world according to the TV Show´s FBI. So, instead of prosecuting her, they decided to recruit her, and have her become one of the most important members of their team.
