Back in 2006, Penelope Mack started as a designer and retailer for children´s unique swimwear. After great success she decided to extend their variety of products by not only selling swimwear, but also winter coats and general children´s apparel. Penelope Mack’s unique designs have high standards and fancy taste when it comes to couture. Penelope´s collections are sold in several major department stores. Their clothes, as they call it, are ¨Fun Fashion for Kids¨. Design clothing is the process of project, coordinate, and a select group of elements that can result in visual objects destined to communicate specific messages to a determined group.
When we think of the word design, we often think about architecture, arts, engineers, and other creative disciplines, but the process of design needs to consider the functionality of objects as well as the esthetics. In order to get a successful and functional design we should always take into consideration the technical, social, and economic aspects, as well as the biological needs with their psychological effects, the shape, the color, the volume and space. This includes all that is considered a part of the environment that surrounds humanity. If we take all that into account, giving equal priority to all elements, we can make a good, functional and esthetic piece of work. The reality of designs is complex and a sociocultural phenomenon of the same value as arts in their time. Artistry isn’t the same as esthetics. Esthetics are what society considers beautiful whereas art is only identified by the eyes of some. So who is right, who is wrong? Who does esthetic designs and who does artistic designs? It’s all about culture and what is considered good enough to be accepted as a cultural element, but actually feels like court mandated.
Penelope Mack clothes are intended to reach a public that is not only functional but is also about looking good including everything that involves esthetics. You can just dress your kid with warm clothes for the winter and prevent them from getting sick because of the change of weather, or you can also do it in a fashionable way, with really great looking outfits that will catch the eyes of everyone around your children. Dressing is more psychological than functional but fashion designs need to be able to combine them both, getting into people´s head and understanding psychological, social and functional needs. Bottom line, design isn’t something we can live without because everything around us, everything we consume, see and feel has gone through that process already. We don’t wake up knowing what we feel like wearing on the top of our heads, we need to see it, and feel it so we can use it after words.
