Fictional Characters are characters made up in our minds, sometimes taken to a project like cartoons, TV shows and even movies. We can all create these fictional characters, but in order for one to stick, we need to find something ¨catchy” about it, something that people will like and would want to continue watching on Television, for example. Most of us grew up watching cartoons and even though we knew they were not real, sometimes we looked up to them and wanted to be like them someday. When we are children, we watch and learn by instinct, which is why parents should be very careful about what their kids are watching on TV, the toys they are playing with and even the friends they hang around with.
Television is one of the most influential sources of learning for children. Back in the day Characters like Penelope Pitstop were role models, sometimes even considered icons. Her role in this cartoon in particular was to act like the damsel in distress, the lady that always needed help, and was very naïve in everything she did and in every situation she found herself in. When little girls and even little boys saw this character, automatically the girls understanding is that all girls should ask for a guy´s help no matter what the situation is, they thought that being helpless is something natural and the way that it should always be. On the other hand, the boys thought they were born to be rescuers, to be the Knight that would help girls like Penelope Pitstop and that way, they would be considered as heroes. Maybe because of characters like hers, most ladies hope to find a guy that rescues them, and most guys want to be the heroes of the story. Lots of movies nowadays are based on real life stories, but some of them are actually created from scratch, made up in the mind of someone that maybe just had a dreamed or was inspired by this character. For example, the writer of Harry Potter is a very creative woman who started picturing these characters in her mind while she riding on a train that was being delayed by traffic. Who would have known that such a creative and wonderful story would be inspired to someone by just sitting on a train, and that years later she would publish this story, and become a multibillionaire because of the copies sold and movies made based on those same books she once started writing by inspiration, with the only purpose of entertaining herself.
Today there are thousands of adults that were unconsciously influenced by characters like Penelope Pitstop, and additional thousands of kids who are growing up right now looking up to a character named Harry Potter. Bottom line, I believe that even today all ladies want to be rescued, even if they don’t admit it, and all the guys want to be rescuers too, even if they don’t admit it either.
I could watch Scihdnler’s List and still be happy after reading this.
